Recognizing the importance of connectivity in achieving better outcomes
By Michelle Lacey
Having worked as a teacher for many years, I recognize the challenges of working with children with diverse abilities. For me, the gap in a child’s ability to learn has always been the limited connectivity between all the stakeholders in a child’s life, particularly their parents, carers, therapists and teachers.
It’s why I’m so excited to be part of the team at Rockmelon. They recognize the importance of “connectivity” – of centralizing communication. The Team function in the platform vastly increases the currency of communication between all the stakeholders in a child’s life. And the Skills and Flashcards really help everyone on the Team develop the unique capabilities needed to help children with autism and other developmental delays.
As a teacher, I would have loved access to such a tool.
My working life has provided me with a unique skill set which complements my ability to support families of children with autism and developmental delays via Rockmelon’s platform. I’ve been a science teacher, senior sales representative, and a research scientist all while being a parent to three wonderful children.
Rockmelon puts the child and their parents or carers at the center of the platform while making it very easy to include therapists, teachers, and other family members – all of who are vital to achieving successful outcomes for the child. It’s so exciting to see technology utilised for such a positive purpose.
My student-centered teaching philosophy integrates well with the Child + Team focus of Rockmelon. As a teacher and parent, I have advocated for educational practices where it’s a child’s right not a privilege to have access to an equitable education and programs that support inclusion.
Rockmelon’s ability to use technology to reach every child in the world with autism or a developmental delay is truly motivating – and a responsibility we take very seriously.
